EXCERPT:
II.
I am always so hungry right before lunch
and full after eating a buffalo chicken sub.
I wash it down with a Monster Energy drink and exhale a clove cigarette.
After all those years as a runner I never thought I’d end up a smoker.
Big Dave and I sing Three Days Grace on the ride home from work
then the next morning he swings by to pick me up in his GMC Jimmy.
Stuck in an endless loop—
day to night, then it’s morning again already…

Now I’m with Bryan and his brothers
drinking beers before the Rolling Rock Town Fair.

and flying guitars—a fight broke out between Finch and Disturbed.

grab a fistful of mulch, and toss it up into the air.
This is my generation’s version of Woodstock.
I was at the back of the crowd for Finger Eleven.
Tyler and I made it to the rail for Velvet Revolver.
I jumped up and down during “Set Me Free”
and I swear to God that Slash looked right at me.
I close my eyes and find new rest
yet the face of my beloved is so mysterious.
